Andy Ash Works the Softer Side of Acid House on Departure Lounge

Departure Lounge Records has been slowly opening out from Brandon Pinel’s own Ode to 97 material, and Andy Ash makes sense within that wider frame. On When The Sunlight Comes, the Liverpudlian producer keeps the pressure measured, working with soft-focus melody, acid detail and gently rolling house structures rather than big-room urgency.

The title track sets the temperature early: bright synth phrases, rounded drums and bubbling acid movement circling a relaxed but DJ-friendly groove. “Sunrise Acid” sits in a similar emotional space, pairing a wistful melodic line with enough movement underneath to keep it functional after dark. Flabaire’s remix pulls that cut sideways into electro, keeping the acid flecks in view while giving the track a dreamier, more gliding shape.

The EP’s quieter range is just as important. “Deep Edge” slows things down with a Hammond-led shuffle, while “3 Feet East” is the most direct club tool here, tighter and more propulsive without breaking the release’s reflective mood. Across the record, Ash lands on a useful balance: deep, warm and nostalgic, but still close enough to the floor to work in a set.
