Hi Lady Decibel! How’s it going? How does it feel to have ‘Waiting’ out in the world?

Hey! We’re doing great, thanks for asking. We’re thrilled to finally share ‘Waiting’ with the world. We’ve been jamming to it ourselves since May, so it’s awesome to finally have it out there!

What was the inspiration behind ‘Waiting’? Did any particular events or emotions drive its creation?

The idea for this song came to us when we were back home in Florida, blasting Rollergirl in the car. Rollergirl is a German artist who blew up in the early 2000s during the “golden age” of Dance music, and she completely took Europe by storm. With the whole 90s and early 2000s comeback happening now, we thought it’d be cool to recreate some of that classic early Dance vibes, but with a modern twist. We’ve been huge Rollergirl fans since we were kids and always wanted to make a track inspired by her. That’s how ‘Waiting’ came to be!

When it comes to your signature sound, can you explain how you feel this new track epitomises your distinct blend of Electronic Music substyles?

Great question! One of our main strengths is working with vocals—almost all of our tracks are vocal-driven, and we rarely do dubs or instrumentals. ‘Waiting’ kicks off with a lush, Trancey vocal but then builds into a driving, upbeat bassline, like those classic Dance tracks we all love. The modern twist comes from the pronounced low end, which really sets it apart from older Dance classics. It’s hard to pin down a specific genre because the track blends so many electronic subgenres. The main vibe is classic Dance, but those Trancey synths are what really make it shine—they’re euphoric! All these elements come together to create a sense of nostalgia, which is exactly what we were going for.

Tell us about the creative process for ‘Waiting’; which element did you begin with and how did you then build on this to create the final production?

We typically start with the vocal, and if we remember right, it was the vocal that set the tone for the entire production. From there, we built the groove with the drums and bassline, and the final touch was creating the right Trance lead with a strong melody to tie it all together into a nostalgic, euphoric Dance track. We’re really happy with the feeling it creates!

The track features a strong, thumping kick and driving bassline. How do you feel these elements contribute to the overall tone of ‘Waiting’ and what was your process for creating them?

That driving thump definitely comes from our Techno roots! As big Techno fans, we love hard kicks and a strong, driving bassline. We also pay close attention to the key of the song, which plays a huge role in setting the overall tone. ‘Waiting’ is in D minor, a key that often conveys feelings of longing and introspection. When the key matches the vibe of the song—and the lyrics align with that feeling—you get a track that just hits right and really connects emotionally. If you look at some of the greatest hits of all time, many of them have that perfect match between key, vibe, and emotion.

As artists with roots in both the Philippines and Belarus, how would you say your diverse backgrounds influence your music, particularly in ‘Waiting’?

Anya is Belarusian, so the Eurodance influence definitely comes into play here. We both grew up listening to Aqua—yeah, we had their CDs and everything, haha! So, ‘Waiting’ is a product of our shared love for Eurodance. Growing up in the Philippines, where music is a big part of life, Dianne was surrounded by it. Karaoke is a national pastime, and every Filipino household has a karaoke machine with someone—usually a dad, uncle, or aunt—singing ballads every night after dinner.

The vocal line in ‘Waiting’ adds to the energy of the track. How did you go about selecting the vocal and what was your approach for integrating it into the track?

We aimed for a classic Trance vibe for the vocal, and once we nailed that, the rest of the production process was pretty straightforward. Classic Dance has a distinctive style, so we just followed that blueprint, and that’s how ‘Waiting’ came together.

What does ‘Waiting’ mean to you personally, beyond just being a track? How would you say it reflects who you are as artists?

Well, we’re actually a couple, so our music often revolves around themes of love, desire, and passion. On a personal level, the lyrics reflect the love and passion we have for each other. Overall, though, the vibe and tone of the track are geared towards both new-school and old-school ravers, aiming to transport them back to the early rave days and evoke the same emotions, feelings, and euphoria that only a rave can deliver.

Can you share the method behind creating the different synth layers in ‘Waiting’? What does your workflow look like when creating melodic elements?

The synth setup in ‘Waiting’ is pretty simple—just three main elements. First, there’s the beautiful chords/pad that you hear right away. Next, there’s a synth hit/pluck for a bit of extra texture. Finally, there’s the emotional synth lead that shows up midway through the song. As for our workflow, it varies from song to song and really depends on where the inspiration takes us during the creation process. We don’t follow a strict method; we let the song develop naturally, if that makes sense.

How do you see ‘Waiting’ setting the stage for your future releases? Can you give us a hint of what’s coming next for Lady Decibel?

‘Waiting’ was crucial for setting the stage for our future releases! While we’ve mostly put out House tracks in the past, ‘Waiting’ marked the start of a new sound and style for us. We’ve got 5 remixes coming up in this new style, plus another Dance single and a debut Techno track slated for the winter. It’s going to be an exciting few months, so stay tuned!

As we wrap up this interview, we thank Lady Decibel for sitting down with us, throughout our conversation, it was clear that their journey with ‘Waiting’ reflects both their creative evolution and dedication to crafting unique, engaging music. With a blend of nostalgic influences and modern touches, they continue to carve out their space in the Electronic music scene, and we look forward to seeing where their passion and artistry take them next.
