Lucas King Channels Raw Inspiration on New Electronic Release “Vulpes”

Emerging from Edenhope, Western Victoria, Lucas King is an independent electronic producer bringing a distinctly personal perspective to dance music. His latest release, “Vulpes,” is shaped by an instinctive creative process and a musical history that stretches from live drums and guitar to modern electronic production.

King began making music at around 12 years old, first learning drums before moving on to guitar. He played in bands from grade nine and continued writing songs throughout his youth. Although those bands never developed into major projects, they helped establish the heavier rock influence that still appears subtly in his current sound.

Living in a small regional town meant King had fewer opportunities to find collaborators, so he began developing music independently. Recording his own instruments became the start of a broader production journey, which moved through dawless hardware setups before reaching his current DAW-based workflow.

While electronic dance music is now his primary focus, King is not interested in being boxed into one style. He is especially drawn to tempo ranges between 90 and 125 BPM, where deep grooves and atmosphere can take centre stage. However, when a more unconventional idea carries emotional weight, he is willing to follow it wherever it leads.

“Vulpes” came together during one of King’s recurring bursts of creativity. Produced quickly to avoid overthinking, it represents an honest snapshot of inspiration in motion—imperfect by design, but driven by feeling and energy.
